Peru granted 30% more patents and 72% more industrial designs in 2018

According to the last statistics from the National Institute for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), Peru has granted 832 patents throughout 2018. This means an increase of 30% of patents granted in comparison with the year 2017.

Besides, Peru has granted 453 new industrial designs, which means an increase of 72% in comparison with 2017.  

Singapore Treaty entered into force in Peru

The 27th of December 2018 the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks (STLT) enter into force for Peru. This Treaty aims to harmonise the application, registration and management procedures of Trademark files. Thus, applicants and holders in countries such as Brunei, Chile, Peru, Vietnam and Malaysia will benefit from the advantages of the harmonization of Trademark procedures, which will be closely similar to those in their countries of origin.

Peru is seeking growth in technology patents

The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) will provide support to the Peruvian Ministry of Production, the National Council for Science and Technology (CONCYTEC),and the National Institute for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) to promote the generation of technology patents that could help to solve national and international problems, contribute to boost national´s productivity and economical growth.
