Organised by the Finland Chamber of Commerce and Business Finland, this seminar offers the participants an outlook of the markets, information on the EU Multi Party Trade Agreement with the countries and on Intellectual Property Rights and a possibility to discuss with experts on the Colombian and Peruvian markets.

Colombia and Peru are among the most prominent and business friendly countries in South America and there are great possibilities in these markets for Finnish companies in different sectors. Both Colombia and Peru are part of the free trade oriented Pacific Alliance and the growth rate in 2018 is projected to be 2.8 % in Colombia and 3.8 % in Peru. Both Colombia and Peru rank high among Latin American countries in World Bank’s Doing Business ranking.

Colombia is investing heavily in infrastructure and that means for example new ports, roads, railways that require a lot of expertise and expertise that Finnish companies can offer. As a part of the Peace Process, Colombia is also developing its rural areas, and in connection to this, the country is interested in developing its forestry sector. Developing the education sector is also one of Colombia’s priorities and this offers great possibilities for Finnish companies.

Peru has one of the world’s largest reserves in extractive goods. The mining sector has been very interesting for Finnish companies for years now and this will continue in the near future. Peru is also interested in developing its forestry sector and aims at increasing the size of the sector. Other sectors of interest for Finnish companies in Peru are energy efficiency, environmental technology and services, clean tech, offshore- and maritime industry, health, education, food and ICT. It is also important to note that the middle class in Peru has grown in recent years and this mean more demand for good quality education and health services.

Alejandra Castañeda, IP expert of the Latin America IPR SME Helpdesk will train participants on the protection and enforcement of the IP rights in these countries.
