Guatemala is the largest economy and the largest consumer market in Central America, with a young population of 17 million inhabitants. The strength and stability of the country are reflected in the projections of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which foresees a GDP growth of 3.2% for this year and 3.6% in 2019. Guatemala actively encourages foreign investment offering attractive conditions for the establishment of businesses and fiscal incentives. In addition, its foreign trade policy has focused on the signing of Trade Agreements such as the European Union-Central America Association Agreement and on the process of economic and commercial integration at the Central American level. The country offers other strategic advantages such as being a gateway to Central America and Mexico, having modern infrastructures and a competitive workforce.

This seminar will focus on business and investment opportunities for European companies in strategic sectors of the Guatemalan economy (Energy, infrastructure, textile, agro-industry, tourism). The IP expert of the Latin America IPR SME Helpdesk will talk about how EU companies can protect their IPR rights in Guatemala.
