Peru is seeking growth in technology patents

The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) will provide support to the Peruvian Ministry of Production, the National Council for Science and Technology (CONCYTEC),and the National Institute for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) to promote the generation of technology patents that could help to solve national and international problems, contribute to boost national´s productivity and economical growth.

The parties will jointly design projects and financial programs aimed to increase the technological and innovation indicators of the country (as for instance, the number of national patent applications).

In this sense, the Indecopi informed that between 2012-2016, the average of patent applications received was 98 per year. In contrast, in 2017 the number of patent applications went up to 355.
