The European Patent Office (EPO) and the Argentinian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Reinforced Partnership programme between both offices. This co-operation agreement is the first of its kind to be set up by the EPO with an IP Office in Latin America.
The EPO establishes bilateral co-operation partnerships with non-member states of the EPC (technical co-operation, reinforced co-operation and validation), in order to make the global patent system more efficient and better suited to user needs.
The Reinforced Partnership programme extends the IP offices network that rely on the re-use of EPO results, so as to harmonize and to further integrate the global patent system.
Thanks to this co-operation, Argentina is one step closer to becoming a validation state of European patents.
